Are you a teacher or school administrator or know someone who is? We have a fun and educational environmental challenge designed especially for schools! In conjunction with America Recycles Day on November 15, Trex will kick off its annual Plastic Film Recycling Challenge, a six-month competition among schools across the country to collect the most plastic bags and other types of polyethylene for the chance to win Trex products.

Trex's Plastic Film Recycling Challenge is a fun, educational environmental challenge for schools.

This fun and spirited race to collect and recycle the most plastic film is easy for schools of any type to implement. Upon registering, schools will receive detailed instructions, promotional materials, recycling bins and a list of qualifying recyclable materials, including grocery and retail bags, dry cleaning bags and newspaper sleeves.

Trex Plastic Film Recycling Challenge is a six-month competition among schools across the country.

Once a month throughout the program, schools will weigh and report their collection total and deliver the recycled plastic to designated drop-off points in their community so that it can be shipped to Trex. Once Trex receives the plastic, it will be converted into beautiful Trex decking instead of being dumped in a landfill.

All participating schools will receive an award made from Trex deck boards, and both regional and national winners will earn a Trex composite bench to spruce up their school’s campus or playground. Last year more than 430 schools participated in the competition, collecting more than 167,000 pounds of plastic film. This year we hope to increase both of those numbers!

Trex's Plastic Film Recycling Challenge kicks off on Nov. 15.

We always enjoy partnering with eco-friendly schools and can’t wait to see how much plastic our participants will recycle this year. To enroll your school in the 2015-16 Trex Plastic Film Recycling Challenge by October 15, visit /recycling/recycling-programs/.
