Transcend® Tiki Torch Used For Jumeirah Corniche Boardwalk

WINCHESTER, Va. – August 6, 2014 – Trex Company, the world's largest manufacturer of eco-friendly, high-performance wood-alternative decking and railing, is making a name for itself among Middle East leaders and residents as part of the new Jumeirah Corniche Development Project in Dubai. The U.S.-based brand and global leader in composite decking was chosen to provide its high-performance deck boards for what will be the longest constructed boardwalk in the Emirate.

Part of the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, to enhance the quality of life for UAE residents and visitors, the Corniche project aims to convert the 14 km of beachfront - spanning six residential communities between Dubai Marine Beach Resort and Spa to Burj Al Arab Hotel - into a more vibrant recreational area that encourages exercise and sporting activities among both residents and tourists.

Slated for completion this November, the project will feature a five-meter-wide walkway, a four-meter-wide jogging track, rest areas, retail kiosks and shaded benches overlooking the beach. The Corniche will be the longest in the territory and will link with the planned Dubai Canal Project.

“We are honoured to have been chosen to be part of such a significant and beneficial endeavour,” said Ronald W. Kaplan, chairman, president and CEO of Trex Company. “This project marks a major milestone for Trex as the Corniche represents one of the largest uses of Trex decking in a single public installation. Selection of our Transcend product is a testament to the proven quality and durability of Trex offerings. We look forward to bringing the Sheikh’s innovative vision to life and sharing the Trex experience with the residents and visitors of the UAE through this meaningful development.”

Why Trex?
Trex was chosen for the project due to its unparalleled product aesthetics and performance, its environmentally-friendly manufacturing processes, and its unique ability to deliver against the stringent demands of the project.

“Just in Time” Delivery
Trex’s superior international logistics capabilities met the tight delivery and construction timeline for completion. Between May and June, Trex delivered more than 27,000 square meters of decking to Tanseeq LLC, Trex’s UAE distribution partner, to support construction. Deliveries were strategically scheduled to ensure material was available on a “just-in-time” basis, thereby reducing the need for managing and storing excess stock during the build process.

Market-leading Product
A project of this significance calls for best-in-class products. For its part, Trex provided its top-of-the-line Transcend decking. Designed to outperform wood, composite and PVC for decades, Trex Transcend® is engineered with an exclusive low-sheen, high-traffic formulation that resists fading, staining, scratching – and will not rot, warp, crack or splinter. Upkeep is hassle-free and requires no sanding, staining or painting.

Distinguishing Trex Transcend from other offerings is its proprietary nine-element surface formulation that produces a natural, wood-like grain pattern with a lustrous satin finish that feels comfortable underfoot. To complement the beautiful natural surroundings of the Corniche project, Trex chose Transcend in Tiki Torch, a variegated light brown colour with rich, reddish-brown hardwood streaking that resembles the distinctive look of tropical hardwoods. Furthermore, to achieve the most aesthetically appealing and seamless look along the boardwalk, deck boards will be installed using Trex-exclusive integrated (hidden) fasteners.

Green Principles and Processes
Another key factor in the selection of Trex by the Sheikh and the project development committee was the company’s commitment to sustainability. The first company in the wood-alternative decking industry to receive an International Code Council Evaluation Service® (ICC-ES)* SAVE Verification for Recycled Content, Trex collects, salvages and repurposes wood scraps and polyethylene plastic to create beautiful, low-maintenance outdoor living products that offer an environmentally responsible choice to consumers. In fact, Trex’s high-performance decking products are made from a minimum of 95 percent recycled or reclaimed resources, including hardwood sawdust from woodworking operations as well as plastic film from household items such as case overwraps, sandwich/bread bags, newspaper sleeves, dry cleaning bags and grocery/retail bags.

Furthermore, Trex ensures that its manufacturing process is as “green” as its final product. Within the manufacturing plant, trailers are hydraulically powered with vegetable-based oil and factory refuse is recycled back into the manufacturing line. Additionally, much of Trex’s packaging materials are made from recycled paper and plastic.

“Our commitment to preserving and protecting the environment influences everything we do as a company,” noted Kaplan. “Each year, we save 400 million pounds (204 kg) of plastic and wood from being sent to landfills. We are extremely proud to contribute to a cleaner environment and a healthier future for our consumers and communities around the world.”

Based in Winchester, Virginia, Trex invented the composite decking category more than 20 years ago and continues to dominate the market in both sales and share. Trex currently is stocked in 38 countries and in more than 6,700 retail locations worldwide. For more information about Trex, visit www.Trex.com.
