Trex's Ronald W. Kaplan Receives "E-3" Award From Emerald Asset Management

WINCHESTER, Va., March 15, 2013 – Ronald W. Kaplan, chairman, president and CEO of Trex Company, the world’s largest manufacturer of wood-alternative decking and railing, recently received the Green Company Executive Award from Pennsylvania-based Emerald Asset Management. The honour was part of the investment management company’s 13th annual “E-3 Awards,” which recognise entrepreneurship and a commitment to excellence among successful business leaders.

Emerald’s team of research analysts and portfolio managers identified corporate leaders – including Kaplan – who have demonstrated the following:

• A creative “outside the box” approach to corporate achievement
• A corporate culture that promotes personal and corporate excellence
• A demonstrated record of accomplishment: creating jobs, stimulating growth and enhancing shareholder value
• An entrepreneurial approach that maximises human initiative
• An ability to effectively identify and adapt cutting-edge technologies and processes

Kaplan joined Trex in 2008, and immediately took a hands-on approach to improve profitability, increase market share and maintain a pre-eminent brand. His strategic formula for producing solid financial results and achieving operational excellence at Trex included implementing supply chain best practices, developing a best-in-class portfolio (exemplified by the game-changing Trex Transcend® decking and railing collection), creating compelling marketing and advertising initiatives and expanding internationally.

As illustrated by his receipt of the Green Company Executive Award, Kaplan also has remained true to the green principles and values upon which Trex was founded. Under his leadership, Trex became the first company in the wood-alternative decking industry to receive an International Code Council Evaluation Service® (ICC-ES)* SAVE Verification for Recycled Content. The entire high-performance Trex decking portfolio is manufactured from more than 95 percent recycled content, including reclaimed wood – as well as plastic from many common household items, such as overwrap from paper towels, toilet paper, dry cleaner bags, newspaper bags and grocery and shopping bags. In fact, Trex annually salvages and keeps more than 400 million pounds of plastic and wood scrap out of landfills.

“It is always rewarding to have your work recognised by industry experts, particularly as Trex continues to raise the bar for product performance and aesthetics – as well as environmental responsibility,” Kaplan said. “As an industry leader, we feel an obligation to set the standard for eco-friendly outdoor living products and manufacturing processes and to help solve today’s environmental challenges.”

Kaplan was recognised with the Green Company Executive Award at the Twentieth Annual Emerald Groundhog Day Investment Forum held in Philadelphia on February 7.
